Relationships, in infertility treatment, can be very complex and involve the transfer of gametes or embryos between individuals. IDEAS keeps track of eggs and sperm used in any given patient treatment cycle.
Relationships in IDEAS can indicates the patient and partner status, but also indicate the gamete providers (and surrogates/intended parents) in a treatment cycle. All patients undergoing infertility treatments within IDEAS will have one or more associated relationship with another individual. This is often a woman and her husband/partner but could include a donor of gametes (sperm or eggs) or a gestational carrier. A patient's relationships to other individuals are recorded in the Demographics / Relationships tab.
All relationships must be defined in the patient record so that gamete sources in treatment cycles can correctly be identified in any future treatment cycles.
All relevant relationships must be recorded prior to the start of any new treatment cycle.
Create a relationship
To create a relationship go to;
patient record>demographic details>relationship tab
click on “New relation…”
Use the search window to identify the relevant patient record that you wish to form the relationship with (i.e. Husband, partner, same sex relationship, surrogate, or donors).
Select the patient if they are already in the IDEAS - if they are not yet in IDEAS create a new record for that partner.
Please note: If the patient has not already been entered into IDEAS then the user can add them at this time by selecting “New…”. The patient can now be created in IDEAS. There will also be an option at this time to “Copy Data from Partner” where the address details and home phone number will be copied from the partner file. |
Type of Relationship
The “Relationship” window will appear displaying some basic details on the selected file.
Complete the details by specifying the Type of relationship (E.g.: Partner) and additional information can be specified such as the “From” and “To” dates and “Remarks”.
If the “To” date is specified the relationship will only be active to the date range specified, and the patient will not be able to be chosen as a gamete source in any cycle after that date.

Edit
allows the user to modify the existing relationship, such as change the type of relationship, dates and remarks.
this option should be used, and an end date added;
when a couple have split up
when a donor has been being used, but the patient has chosen a new one and this one will not be used again
Remove relation…
A relationship should never be removed from the patient file unless it was created in error. The “Remove relation…” button should only be used if a relationship has been created in error, and using it instead of adding and end date can affect Electronic consent interfaces, mail merges, cycle gamete sources and many other areas of IDEAS |
Go to patient
allows you to switch directly to the selected file/patient in the relationship table.
Not this will not work if the relationship has been identified as anonymous
