Steps to installing IDEAS (new installation)

This document describes step-by-step how to install the IDEAS application on a clinic's workstation and create a desktop shortcut to it.

Before you Begin

To perform this procedure you will require the following:

1. That the workstation has access to the folder storing the server copy of IDEAS.
2. That you are logged in with administrator authority on the workstation.
3. That you (the user-ID logged in on the workstation) have authority to access the IDEAS V.6 directory (folder) on the server.
4. That the following installation file is in IDEAS root folder on the server: Ideas 6 Runtimes with CrXIR2.msi.

How to Install IDEAS on a Workstation

Please follow these steps for installing the application:

1. Restart your computer and login to Windows using an account with full administrator rights
2. Navigate to the IDEAS root folder on your clinic's server, by one of two methods:
2.1. If the IDEAS shortcut icon exists on your desktop (i.e. if you are reinstalling IDEAS on this workstation):


2.1.1. Right-click the IDEAS shortcut and select Properties:
2.1.2 In the 'Properties' dialog click on "Open file location"

This will open a Windows Explorer interface displaying the IDEAS root folder.

2.2. If the shortcut icon is not on your desktop:

2.2.1. Go to Start-> My Computer
Open the IDEAS root folder and look for the file named Ideas 6 Runtimes with CrXIR2.msi and double-click it to launch the installer:


The IDEAS InstallShield Wizard will launch.

4. Follow the instructions in the installation wizard, choosing a Typical Installation:

4.1. Click the Next button on the welcome screen:


4.2. Enter your user name and organization name in the corresponding fields in the Customer Information dialog:



4.3. Select the Typical setup type in the "Setup Type" dialog and click Next :




     

Click the Install button in the "Ready to Install the Program" dialog:

The InstallShield program will start installing IDEAS on your workstation. The following "Installing IDS" screen will display the installation progress in its status bar:

When the installation completes, click the Finish button on the "InstallShield Wizard Completed" dialog.

How to Create an IDEAS Shortcut on the Desktop (for all users)

A shortcut icon will need to be created in the 'C:\Users\Public\Desktop' folder on the PC. Please note that the 'Desktop' folder is a system folder and may be hidden. You will also need to have sufficient permissions to 'unhide' and copy the shortcut file to it.

You can find the shortcut file by navigating to the IDEAS root folder and locate the shortcut file called 

'IDEAS_PROD' (could also be called something similar such as 'IDEAS_xxxx_PROD'



The IDEAS shortcut icon will appear on the workstation's desktop.



You are ready to run IDEAS from the shortcut.
