Donor Matching Module

See also;

The donor matching module in IDEAS allows a recipient to state their desired characteristics for either an egg or sperm donor, attach a level of importance to those characteristics and search the clinic IDEAS database and provide a list of potential matches.

The user can also further filter any search results to;

  • only include donors who currently have unclaimed samples in cryostorage at the clinic

  • only include donor who have consented to a particular contact status

  • only include donors in a particular, age, height or weight range

  • only include donors who have samples of a particular sperm classification

The matching module will only search donor records which have been stored in the clinic database.

Donor matching module prerequisites

In order to use the donor matching facility you MUST ensure that anything that a patient may wish to identify as a desired characteristic is be completed on the donor record. Some common items that a patient may wish to determine in a donor are;

Completed donor physical characteristics incl. contact status

  • all donor records MUST have the physical characteristics fields completed in the Progress notes folder, including ‘donor contact type’

For information on this click here PN - Physical Characteristics tab .

The definition of contact status differs between jurisdictions and also between donor banks so your clinic should be clear on how this status is used and what it means

Sperm donor category

  • donor records have the appropriate option ticked on the additional details page i.e ‘sperm donor’ or oocyte donor'. For more info see DD - Additional Information tab

NB This is not necessary if the donor records have been created as ‘external' sperm or egg donors.

Sperm Classification in freeze properties

If you wish to utilise a ‘sperm class’ filter in the donor matching module, you MUST ensure that any items in the cryomodule have a class associated with them.

This criteria relates to a classification provided by some external sperm banks to indicated the quality and preparation status of the frozen donor sample.

Recipient patient record

There are also some requirements for the recipient patient record;

  • country MUST BE recorded in in the Demographic Details folder

  • desired donor characteristics table in their record should be completed, along with levels of priority or importance.

These characteristics, and their associated level of priority are used in the donor matching process, to search your IDEAS database for suitable donors.
