TDL Pathology Interface - blood tests
This section describes how to configure and use the IDEAS Pathology interface. Step-by-step instructions will describe how to perform the following:
Order a blood test
Review blood test status and results using the “Blood Tests – TDL” task list

TDL - How to order a TDL profile for a single blood test
Go to the "Blood/Lab tests" folder.
Click the add a new record icon.
Select the blood test name from the dropdown list.
if the name of the test is not available on the drop down inform Mellowood support - do not order directly via the TDL website as this may not return the result to IDEAS and even if it does , that result will not be visible to the patient in the portal
Enter the date.
Select “TDL” from the “Lab for Analysis” dropdown list.
Click the Set Sample ID button.
The "Assign blood tube Sample ID" window will appear.
Select values for "Requesting physician," "Technician" from the dropdown lists. (Optional.)
In the "Lab for Analysis” field, select "TDL" from the dropdown list.
Click the Save button.
The “Assign blood tube Sample ID” window will close.
The selected sample's status ("Sent to lab") and Test ID values will appear in the blood test grid.
If the blood test has been configured for automatic invoicing, then the blood test will appear as a billable item in the patient’s Billing folder. For information see Invoicing for blood and investigation tests
TDL - How to order a TDL profile for a batch of tests
Pre-requisite; Before you can order TDL blood profiles/panels (i.e a group of tests batched together), you must have agreed and set this up with TDL, and then informed Mellowood who will create treatment modules for you
Open a patient's file.
Go to the "Blood/Lab tests" folder.
Click the "Investigation" button
Select "Insert Plan" from the popup menu (the plan is the TDL profile that you have already configured)
The Insert Plan dialog will appear.
Select the template name from the “Template” dropdown list.
Enter the date (auto-populated with today's date).
Click "Save and set sample ID" button:
The "Assign blood tube Sample ID" window will appear.
Select values for "Requesting physician," "Technician" from the dropdown lists (Optional)
In the "Lab for Analysis” field, select "TDL" from the dropdown list
Select/de-select blood tests to send to TDL
Click the Save button
The “Assign blood tube Sample ID” window will close.
The selected samples' status ("Sent to lab") and Test ID values will appear in the blood test grid:
If the blood test has been configured for automatic invoicing, then the blood test will appear as a billable item in the patient’s Billing folder. For information see Invoicing for blood and investigation tests
The profile will now be visible in the upper window
and it will be visible that the test has been ordered as part of a profile, in the treatment module
Physically sending the sample
You should;
Print requisition from picklist - do not use any forms that you have physically in the clinic as the report in the picklist has been created specifically for this interface
You can also print a label form the picklist to label the blood tube with
Physically send the sample
TDL - Tracking and Viewing Test Results
Users can track and review test results automatically received from TDL by using the “Blood Tests – TDL” task list to navigate to a patient’s Blood / Lab Tests folder.
If the results have been received from TDL, “Result entered” will appear in the test’s status and the result data will appear in the “Blood Tests” tab. Otherwise, the test’s status will remain “Sent to lab” until the results are received.
A results grid is available for tests with multiple components; an “info” icon will appear in the “Result” field for these tests. The results grid is activated by clicking the icon.
TDL - Viewing Multiple Component Test Results
Users can view the results for multiple component tests in a results grid in the patient’s Blood / Lab tests folder.
When results are received for a test with multiple components, an “info” icon is available next to the test’s status in the patient’s blood tests list.
Click the “info” icon to display the grid of multiple component results:
The “info” icon is also available in the test’s Result field (in the Blood Tests tab):
