Access this window by right-clicking on a field and selecting ‘Properties’
IntelliSense and Auto-paragraph are tools which provide the user with a library of commonly-used sentences and paragraphs to speed the entry of data into the database.
They function in a similar way to predictive text. These tools are used in comment and text entry input fields within IDEAS.
This function allows you to enter sentences into comment boxes by entering a few of the first characters in the phrase or sentence. Typically, this is usually the first three to five characters of the text. The systems can be restricted to specific sections of IDEAS or used globally. IntelliSense phrases are user-specific; when a user creates a phrase, it is saved in their profile for their own use only.
How to create an IntelliSense phrase
This is accessed by right clicking on any comment field and selecting ‘properties’.
Left click the Add button to add a new phrase.
Type any text into the Phrase record. (You may enter any characters, or numbers, into the phrase table.)
In the # Chars column, enter the number of characters you need to type to invoke the IntelliSense feature. The number of characters can be varied depending upon the text you are entering. In the example above, three entered characters which match the text need to be entered to invoke the Intellisense function.
Left click save then to save the new phrase record.
The Intellisense function will work throughout IDEAS in all text entry fields. Be sure to lock out global sentences if you just want local comments.
This means that the phrase can be used in all free text boxes. Over time, you will create a library of sentences or phrases which are unique to the comment (text) box you are working with.
If you click on the globe icon it will change into a
which allows you to lock the sentence or phrase to the selected comment (text) field. Additionally, there is a check box which allows you to exclude global phrases. By checking this box you can select just the phrases relevant to this comment (text) box.
How to use the IntelliSense feature
Start typing the first few characters of a phrase configured in the comment field's properties.
A pop-up box will appear revealing the entire phrase:
Select the text by using the down arrow + right arrow on your keyboard, or use the mouse.
This will accept the sentence or phrase into the comment (text) box.
Press the Enter key to save the text.
Save the record by left clicking the
icon in the top tool bar.
The text is now saved into the patient's record.
