Treatment cycle information requirements for lab events

Prior to creating a new laboratory record, certain data must be recorded for the current treatment cycle.

Pre-requisites for adding lab events to a Treatment cycle;

  • A treatment record has been recorded in the Treatment cycles folder for the selected patient.

  • A luteal day 0 has been recorded for the selected treatment cycle. This is usually recorded automatically by confirming a trigger event in the treatment details record for a fresh IVF type treatment. For treatments not involving a trigger event, the luteal day 0 date must be entered manually by entering the date into the Luteal day 0 field in the treatment plan Sentinel dates tab.

Please note: All oocyte/embryo lab event records are dated relative to commencement of the patient’s luteal phase and the luteal day 0 entered in the treatment plan.

Fresh egg collections;

In fresh oocyte collections, this date is auto-calculated from the date and time of the trigger event, or if not trigger is given, it can be manually added.

Egg or embryo recipient cycles

even though the patient has not been stimulated or had an egg collection, the luteal day 0 must still be identified to ensure that the age of the eggs / embryos is correct and the transfer day is correct.

Frozen Embryo Transfers;

As for the recipient cycles, the luteal day 0 is manually entered, to correspond with the age of the embryos on the day of thaw.

e.g if the embryos being thawed on 7th December are day 5 embryos, luteal day 0 should be set to 2nd December. This ensures that when you create the lab event for the Day 5 thaw for 7th December, the ‘day’ shown in the lab event will be day 5.

Luteal day 0 can sometimes be tricky to calculate especially for fozen cycles.

If when you enter the lab event, the age of the embryos appears incorrect and you have to edit the luteal day 0 in the treatment plan to correct it, you will have to open and close the lab events to refresh the dates and thus age of the embryos.
