Lab Events - Thaw/Warming

Prerequisites

  • Treatment cycle created with a Frozen Embryo transfer treatment type (or Egg thaw type)

  • Start date in treatment plan

  • Luteal day 0 in treatment plan, corresponding to the age of the embryos and the day relative to day 0 that you intend to thaw them

E.g. the below example indicates that the intention is to thaw embryos stored at day 3 stage on 05/05/2021

  • eggs or embryos available in the IDEAS cryomodule (present and not locked for use or allocated to anyone else)

  • Determine if you will be able to that from the treatment cycle that the embryos where frozen in or if you will have to thaw directly from the cryomodule

  • NOTE - if your clinic uses IDEAS Lab Orders, the embryos to thaw may have been indicated there - Tx cycle - Lab orders & PGD tabs - optional

  • From Laboratory details folder, click ‘get eggs/embryos’

  • Select Thaw from Previous Cycle or Thaw from Cryo Only.

'Thaw from cryo only' - choose this option when embryos are NOT linked to a freeze cycle in IDEAS. This would be the case if they were entered into cryo via the Direct Freeze option or possibly if they were added during a Cryo Conversion.

  • You will be presented with the embryos and eggs in storage for that patient which are available to thaw.

  • Select Embryos you wish to thaw.

You can select multiple embryos by holding down the CTRL key on your keyboard while selecting the embryos.

When there are two or more embryos/oocytes stored in one straw, if you select one of those here the others will automatically be selected

  • The lab event which opens will be a thawing/warming event by default - check that the day of thaw is correct and the day number corresponds to the age of the embryos/oocytes - if not you will need to back and correct the luteal day 0 on the treatment plan page.

if the day does not correspond with the age of embryos , you will need to adjust the luteal day 0 date on the treatment plan

  • Enter Thaw procedure details - check the day is correct

Time and Embryologist will be mandatory and you can’t save & close without entering these

  • Save and Close

if you thawed from a previous cycle,

If you thaw from a previous cycle;

  • the information in ( ) indicated the original egg number in the freeze cycle, in the example above TX2006809)

  • Once you have added the thaw event, the previous freeze cycle details will show in green text in the middle grid summary

Note

Embryo Scoring can be documented at this time - the scheme available when clicking the ‘Embryo scoring button’ will correspond to the age of the embryo/oocyte. For more on this click here IDS4708 Lab Events - Embryo Scoring Alternatively you can create a new ‘Observation’ event to document the embryo scoring

Embryo Transfer

You can now further lab events , including observations, embryo transfer, refreezing, discard etc
