Lab events - Embryo Fates

The Fate column is visible on all lab procedure events. Fates are typically DiscardDonateTransferFreeze and Degenerate. Enter the fate in the procedure event in which it was decided.

Fates assigned have an impact on LPI KPIs - for more information click here LPI query - validation of source data and investigation of results - Worked Examples

E.g. you observe a GV oocyte during the ICSI event and decide to Discard it.

In ICSI LAB Event - Enter GV in the maturity column for that embryo and then select Discard in the fate column. You must also unselect the embryo as the ICSI injection will NOT be performed on this GV embryo. A discard event will automatically be added to this embryo and the embryo will no longer be displayed in subsequent lab events.

E.g. When grading embryos for quality, you determine the embryo will be discarded.

  • If you discard the embryo at the time of the grading;

    • In the Observation lab event - You enter the observation details and then select Discard in the Fate field. In this case you do NOT unselect the embryo as the observation procedure was performed on the embryo.

  • If you discard the embryo after the embryo transfer or cryopreservation;

    • In the Embryo Transfer and/or Cryopreservation lab events - select the embryo(s) for transfer/cryopreservation.

    • Create a new Discard lab event - any embryos remaining in culture after transfer and cryo events will be available to select for discard.

Note: It is recommended on the day of transfer that you enter the Fates in the observation event. The lab decides which embryos they will freeze, transfer and discard based on this event. If you enter the Transfer and Freeze fates at this time then when you add the Assisted Hatching, Transfer or Freeze events the embryos will be automatically selected in the event. A discard event will be automatically added to those discarded.
