Freezing & thawing straws in IDEAS using TMRW interface
Freezing straws containing oocytes or embryos within a treatment cycle
Overview of Freeze workflow
Select embryos to freeze
Go through the physical freeze to the point that embryos are in the straws.
Data entry of the freeze lab event in IDEAS to create the TMRW ticket - the straws will be noted as frozen in a temporary ‘virtual’ location in the tank
You will get a confirmation notification that a TMRW ticket has been created
Take the straws to the TMRW tank and put them in , choosing the patient from the worklist
The location that the TMRW robot has chosen for the straws will update back into IDEAS cryomodule at a later point
Detailed break down of freeze process
Create a freeze lab event and select the embryos to be frozen
Click ‘Save and close’
Freeze dialogue
All straws to be stored in a TMRW tank will be ‘virtually’ stored in a location in IDEAS when the data is is entered.
You must enter the data and ‘freeze’ the straws, identifying the location in IDEAS, to create the TMRW ticket and push the patient to the TMRW worklist, before physically adding them to the tank.
You should get a confirmation pop up that a ticket has been created. If you get any other message, contact Mellowood at support@mellowoodmedical.com.
When completing the freeze dialogue you will choose the location in the same way as you would for ‘normal’ freezing, but in this case the ‘temporary’ location within the TMRW tank is called is called ‘Queue’ , which contains multiple slots called ‘Positions’.
If more than 7 straws have to be frozen, make sure to tick the “Store on multiple locations” tickbox and spread the straws over the appropriate number of positions.
NOTE - ‘Queue’ is not a real location , it is the holding place for the data before the straws are located to their correct position by the robot. That final location will be pushed back into IDEAS and will automatically update in the cryomodule
Thawing oocyte or embryo straws within a treatment cycle
Overview of Thaw workflow
Data entry of the thaw lab event must be entered BEFORE you remove the straws from tank - the thaw event creates the TMRW ticket to allow you to remove the straws. The data entry can be done up to a day before.
This is the workflow for straws that are frozen in the TMRW tank. For straws that are stored in other tanks, the data entry can be done at any time.
Select the straws you wish to thaw using the 'Get eggs/embryos options
Select the eggs / embryos you want to thaw.
Watch out only the ones from a TMRW tank will create a ticket.
Click ‘Select’ - the thaw lab event will now open - you can save and close this.
You should get a confirmation pop up that a ticket has been created. If you get any other message, contact Mellowood at support@mellowoodmedical.com.
Freezing & thawing straws/vials containing sperm/testicular tissue outwith a treatment cycle
Freezing and thawing sperm does not involve a treatment cycle
Freeze
Create a Semen analysis investigation.
Open the freeze dialogue as above by adding a ‘freeze’ procedure to the Semen analysis investigation.
Proceed as above for oocytes and embryos
Thaw
add a thaw procedure to a new SEM investigation
work through the thaw dialogue
Thawing straws outwith a treatment cycle
sometime you will need to remove straws or vials from the TMRW tank outwith a treatment cycle;
discard of straws e.g at patient request, or abnormal PGT results
to clarify if you should use ‘Discard’ or ‘Thaw’
